Ontario Trillium Foundation Award
The Carnegie is pleased to announce that we are the proud recipients on an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to fund a part-time position over a two-year period "to hire an administrative support person to update policies and procedures and support existing staff in order to increase the number of gallery visits and sales".
Carnegie Gallery granted 1.225 Million from the Province
An announcement made by MPP Ted McMeekin at the Dundas Historical Museum and Archives on Monday, July 25, 2011 gave the Carnegie Gallery and the Dundas Museum $2.45M to split for upcoming building and accessibility plans---funding that supports art and art history in the local community. Funding for the Carnegie will go toward a building addition that will open more floor space and modernize parts of the property, including a brand new glass structure. Update on Renovations
The first phase of renovations to the existing building are now complete (see details below). McMaster Framing is now back in the basement in a smaller, secure room still accessed for now from the rear door (627=9387),
Heritage Grant
The Dundas Arts Community Foundation was awarded a Heritage Grant from the City of Hamilton, which enabled the building exterior to be completed. This work was undertaken with a grant from Ontario Trillium Foundation.
We would like to acknowledge Stantec for their generous funding for the speakers series which will took place in our 2010 anniversary year, celebrating 100 years for our historical building and 30 years for the Carnegie Gallery and the Trillium Foundation for capital grants for building restoration and renovation work.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to The Ontario Trillium Foundation, for the award of a Capital Grant, which made possible the completion of phase 1 of the renovations. This work included repairs to the leaking foundation, replacement of the eavestroughing, and restoration work to some of the architectural details and stucco. Interior work included renovations to the basement: a completely refurbished kitchen and washroom, a new meeting room, improved storage space, coat closet, a small commercial space (currently rented to McMaster Framing), and raised ceilings. Upstairs in the main gallery, new display units, office storage and counter unit, exhibition lighting, and carpeting were installed.
To have got this far is the result of a tremendous amount of work by a great group of community minded people which includes the Boards of both the Carnegie Gallery and the Dundas Arts Community Foundation, the Capital Campaign ‘Cabinet’ led by Doug Barber and assisted by Frances Neufeld. We have also had the great good fortune to be working with Vermeulen /Hind Architects who have been there every step of the way. We have had the support and encouragement of our artist and associate members as well as our elected representatives, David Sweet, Russ Powers and Ted McMeekin. We also have had our tremendous Fundraising Events Committee chaired by Donn Zver. Our heartfelt thanks to them all.
