A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Myrna Putns is an award winning artist and educator, holding a Teaching Diploma and a Fine Arts Degree from McMaster University. Teaching locally in the Adult Education, Elementary and Secondary Panel, she was also an Artist in Residence for the Hamilton Board of Education.
She has given a variety of workshops including the RBG, OEA, HRAC, WAA and the Lakeside Artists, Pumphouse Grimsby. In addition, she participated in the Gerry Puley’s Art Portfolio Workshop Tours from 1999 to 2002, as Artist in Residence and Administrator/Coordinator.
Myrna’s watercolour paintings have been displayed throughout Ontario and Canada in numerous Solo Exhibitions and juried shows where she has received many awards and broad recognition. Her paintings are part of collections both locally and internationally. Although an avid floral painter, Myrna’s recent subject matter has focused on the street and rooftops of Hamilton. The surrounding geography is what makes it unique and special, all the rich and varying facets of life are enclosed and defined by the encircling arm of the escarpment. In this, Myrna tries to “…capture the essence of this warm city.”
When Myrna is not behind the easel, she enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband, Andy.
