Mary Philpott – In the Company of Crows
Exhibition of Sculpture and Tile
June 1 – 29, 2014
Opening reception Friday June 6, 7-9:30pm
Mary Philpott is an award winning ceramic artist who has just recently moved her focus to sculpture and specifically Hares and Crows. This exhibition will focus on a sculpture installation as well as relief work for the walls. She is well known for her beautiful vessels and tiles with an Arts and Crafts nature. She has been inspired by William Morris, William Blake, Arthur Rackham, and Botticelli to name a few. ‘Each of these historical figures from their times, as well as Medieval Ages provide the background to each tile, sculpture, or vessel. It is an attempt to catch a moment in time in a narrative for each individual character, like the hare the deer or the crow’.
Philpott has exhibited extensively, she has been an instructor from the mid-nineties to present, has had numerous publications about her works, numerous prestigious awards, residencies, lectures and workshops. Mary Philpott is from Stratford, Ontario.
This exhibition was chosen to be on display during our Secret Gardens Tour 2014 – sculpture for the gardens.
