Jane Hill – Pots in Place
Paper, Porcelain, Paint
March 1–24, 2013
Opening reception Friday, March 1, 7-9:30 pm
Jane Hill is best known as a Dundas Potter of sleek simple forms in porcelain, with a spare palette. She has produced, displayed and instructed pottery since the early 1990’s. Hill has won awards and is part of several permanent collections in North America. She is also the founder of the well-loved Dundas Studio Tour.
Four years ago in pursuit of refreshing her practice, she enjoyed a workshop in Italy, attended mostly by painters; she was encouraged to paint as well.
Hill was influenced by her instructor Jody Joseph and a new found artist (for Jane) Giorgio Mirandi. She began to make paper forms of one of her loves, her collection of Canadiana vessels. From the paper forms she began to paint them in a limited palette. Looking beyond her forms the negative spaces they created became as much if not more her focus of attention.
Through these explorations Jane is ready to share this series of still life paintings including the hand built paper forms and some with porcelain parts as well.
