Iriz Pääbo – Quilt Trip

Paintings and Sculpture

May 6 – 29, 2016
Opening reception Friday May 6, 7-9:30pm

Invitation for Iriz Paabo exhibition Quilt TripQuilt Trip is about the everydayness of cloth, about time, labour and community.  It is Femmage Art, a term from Miriam Shapiro who used it to describe artwork that relates to traditional women’s work. Femmage addresses the disservice done to women’s art, which is all too frequently relegated to the minor category of craft work.

Born in Sweden to Estonian parents, Iriz Pääbo is an internationally-celebrated filmmaker-composer and visual artist. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including the 2009 Golden Nica, presented by Ars Electronica in Austria for the best computer animation and visual effects. Iriz is the first Canadian woman to have won this prestigious award.
