banner - King Street Artwalk

Take a stroll down King Street between Cross Street and Sydenham Road and view a collaborative effort between poets and artisans. King Street Artwalk is a unique chance to view visual art created by artist members of the Carnegie Gallery, which inspired the accompanying poems written by members of the Tower Poetry Society. On the ARTwalk page of the TPS website you can view five series of Artwalk Poetry and Art from past years. Each of the selected art works and accompanying poems may be viewed and read in the storefronts of the businesses listed below from the week before through the Arts Dundas weekend.

TOUGH ROOTS

Dead as a stone? No.
These roots live.

Quickened by pulsing sun,
a tough tree vibrates outer warmth,
relays inner strength,
feels the tug of stubborn roots.

Unflinching under the lash of storms,
a tree remembers it held fast
when ice catapulted from far north
in lightning hails of thunder.

Isolated in back acres, concrete cities,
stubborn roots stone-contained
resist, no matter what machines
stutter angrily overhead
with great teeth.
